Taurus 24/7 .45ACP Opinions?

What do people think about the Taurus 24/7 OSS DS 5.25bbl in .45ACP?
I always wanted a .45, I'm hearing good things about this $450. gun.

Taurus makes a nice revolver, but their pistols leave a lot to be desired, IMO. I have a Millenium Pro in 9mm, never was very happy with it. The price is attractive, to be sure, but I sure wouldn't bet my life on this pistol. I have too many FTFeed with mine, sent it back for service and still have the problem. One of these days, I'm going to sell it.

There are a lot of options with .45 ACPs. I would even try the Bersa in .45 ACP over a Taurus, if you're looking to go on the cheap. However, if you're looking at this for your primary defensive handgun, I would look at a XD or Glock, even used, if you need to stay within budget (which I definitely relate to!). If a 1911 is what you're looking at, there are a lot of choices!

Bersa .45 UC is the best alternative to the Tarus since its in the same low price range but about 100 times more reliable than the Taurus.

I like Taurus believe it or not, but they are a total hit or miss with their lemon guns. You might get one, you might not, like any company, but it seems like there are higher odds that you might. They are good guns for the price, but I wouldnt put your life on them, so if you get one, keep that in mind.

Ive heard narry a bad word about Bersa however and own one myself and plan on getting the 9mm version of my 45 here shortly.

EDIT: Ill add that it seems the more recently made 24/7 pros seem to be of alot better quality than their previous models, fwiw.

I heard they had a batch of bad mags that was causing feed problems in .45acp.

Being a lefty, the slide release on the Glock gives me problems.

I have a 24/7 in .45 and like it quite a bit. I have experienced no feed problems with it. It's pretty light weight so recoil is snappy, not a big deal just something I noticed compared to my other .45acp pistols (both 1911's). Seated in a fobus holster it doesn't drag my pants down like an all steel handgun. The only bad thing I have discovered is that spare mags are hard to come by and expensive when I find someone who has them for sale.
